It's Complicated (2009)

It's a Nancy Meyers' film, and not a particularly good one. It has the beautiful houses, and the sit-commy plot, and, granted, a juicy role for an older woman, but that's about it. One of the problems with this film is that it's just not complicated enough. It's pretty one-note and easy. The biggest flaw is the character played by Lake Bell, the much younger wife of the character played by Alec Baldwin. She's an empty-headed shrew so it makes sense that Alec Baldwin wants to get back together with his ex-wife, played by Meryl Streep. Think how much more interesting this would have been if the young wife was a fleshed-out character as well, with actual feelings. But that would have been, um, complicated.
