Bonecrack (1971)

This is exactly what I look for in a Dick Francis novel. A strong and humble hero, authentic horse-racing atmosphere, and enough suspense to fill out the slim word-count. Some of the later books feel cookie-cuttered but not this one from 1971. Very good stuff.
