Not a good film. Stephan Elliott, the director, is so nervous about turning a drawing-room melodrama from the stage into a modern film comedy that he over-directs every scene, adding visual flourishes and distracting music. Colin Firth and Kristin Scott-Thomas save a couple of scenes as the in-laws but the rest of the cast - including Jessica Biel as an American adventuress - seem lost.
